Skate Skiing on Boot Lake Video

Posted on March 21, 2013 by Dave

Skate skiing utilizes a graceful skating motion to propel the skier forward versus the traditional kick and glide of the classic style.  Last winter, due to limited snow fall, we were able to maintain a groomed trail on the lake, perfect for skate skiing.  I was fortunate to have the camera along on this beautiful day, when the frosty morning was transformed by the bright sun and blue sky about midway through our ski.  In my mind, this morning ranks right up there as one of our best.  Enjoy this video if you have a minute and a half.

Snowboarding on Boot Lake

Posted on January 21, 2013 by Dave
Nate has a bad case of cabin fever!  Last night he began his insistent “Let’s do something FUN!”  To fully appreciate our discussion, remember there is a big difference between how a 17 and 57 year old define the word “FUN”.  Today he prodded and pulled until we finally acquiesced into his plan for the day:  snowboarding behind the truck.  The 16 inch bar of the chain saw plunged straight down into the ice told us it was safe.  So, in spite of the blustery conditions (0 degrees and 20 m/hr winds), we all bundled up and piled into the truck.  We grabbed an old ski rope and the kids squeezed into snowboard boots that didn’t really fit anymore.  At the public access, we noticed we weren’t the first vehicle on the ice, so that was reassuring.  We started slow, but by the end of the afternoon the kids were looking for drifts to jump and were up to speeds that had Dad, the driver, feeling uncomfortable.  Here is a fun video if you have one minute. Be sure and look for the amazing sundog which will appear at about the halfway point!

Boot Lake Freeze-up

Posted on December 7, 2012 by Dave

Only a couple times in our 16 years have we witnessed the actual freeze-up of the lake.  Normally this happens at night when the wind dies and the temperature drops.  One morning at the end of November we woke up to an awesome display.  Overnight the north half of BootLake froze glass-smooth, but the mist was pouring off the open water to the south; mist so thick the sun was diffused into a bright orange cloud.  We have created a one minute video of this amazing morning.  Two things of interest in this video:  the steam rising not only from the water, but also from the fresh ice, and the secondly the 4 large birds flying into the rising sun are trumpeter swans.  They are commonly seen feeding on our lake up until freeze-up.  Here is the link for the video:  http://youtu.be/1jy1-z7au6k

2011 Fishing Honor Roll.

Posted on April 30, 2012 by Dave

Here are some of the fish caught in 2011.   Boot Lake is a decent fishing lake, but we tend to downplay the fishing aspect.  There are so many variables to catching fish that we don’t like to get people’s hopes too high.  None-the-less, here are our 2011 Fishing All-Stars!

Today I have the opportunity to introduce our videographer, J.Morgan Legreid.  This talented young man created our first resort videos while still in high school.  Dave has produced a couple of simple videos, but most of our projects have been created by J.Morgan.  Check out his profile and enjoy this creative production.
